India is the only country in Asia Pacific (APAC) region that has research and development (R&D) centres of all major telecom and networking companies. The country had 1,031 MNC R&D centres at the end of 2012 compared to 806 at the end of 2007. Segments like telecom, semiconductor, automotive, computer peripherals & storage, consumer electronics, aerospace and medical devices are expected to continue to drive growth in engineering R&D. The Indian Engineering Research and Development (ER&D) industry is expected to triple from the current size of USD 10-11 billion by 2020, according to the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom). India’s global IT business process outsourcing (BPO) industry revenue is expected to cross the US$ 225 billion mark by 2020, according to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Speakers will discuss the status and potential of R&D in India and Sweden and how Indian scientific resources can be combined with the Swedish strength in innovation to provide global solutions.
