Indiens turistministerium har utformat flera nationella strategier för ekoturism och hållbar turism i Indien. Dessutom har man skapat programmet “Travel for LiFE” för att främja hållbar turism i landet. Målet är att uppmuntra turister och företag inom turismen att anta hållbara turismpraxis och vara medvetna om konsumtionen av turismresurser, inklusive kulturellt och naturligt arv.
Engagerande evenemang ska främja hållbar turism
För att skapa medvetenhet bland allmänheten firar ministeriet speciella evenemang och dagar med medborgarnas deltagande, såsom Internationella yogadagen och regionala festivaler. Ministeriet för turism ger också ekonomiskt stöd till delstatsregeringar och unionsterritorier för att organisera mässor, festivaler och turismrelaterade evenemang inom ramen för det inrikes främjande- och publicitetsprogrammet, inklusive gästfrihet.
Kulturarvsturism i Indien
För att uppmuntra bevarandet av kulturarvsegendomar, såsom palats, slott, fästningar, havelis, jaktstugor och bostäder av alla storlekar som byggts före 1950 (1935 för kategorin Heritage Grand/Classic), har turistministeriet ett frivilligt klassificeringssystem för hotell under kategorin Heritage.
Pilgrimsturismen drar sitt strå till stacken
Ministeriet för turism ger också finansiellt stöd till delstatsregeringar och unionsterritorier inom ramen för “National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD)” för utveckling av turismrelaterad infrastruktur vid identifierade pilgrims- och kulturarvsdestinationer.
Storsatsningen Swadesh Darshan Scheme
År 2014-15 lanserade ministeriet för turism sitt Swadesh Darshan Scheme med målet att förbättra turistanläggningar i landet, främja kultur och arv, öka turistattraktiviteten på ett hållbart sätt, skapa medvetenhet bland lokalsamhällen om turismens betydelse och skapa sysselsättning genom aktivt deltagande från lokalbefolkningen. Ministeriet för turism har godkänt 76 projekt i landet inom identifierade teman, inklusive 10 temakretsar för kulturarv inom SDS. Storsatsningen i en andra version
Nyligen har ministeriet för turism omarbetat Swadesh Darshan Scheme till Swadesh Darshan 2.0 med målet att utveckla hållbara och ansvarsfulla turistdestinationer genom en destinations- och turismcentrerad strategi. Hittills har ministeriet för turism godkänt 29 projekt inom ramen för Swadesh Darshan 2.0.
Status ger förmåner
Vissa delstatsregeringar och unionsterritorier har också beviljat branschstatus till gästfrihets- och turistindustrin, inklusive Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, Västbengalen, Punjab, Goa och Uttarakhand. Detta ger tillgång till förmåner, inklusive eltariffer och andra skatter till industriella priser, jämfört med tidigare krav på betalning till högre kommersiella priser. Turistindustrin framför sina synpunkter till turistministeriet angående olika frågor, som tas upp för lösning i samordning med andra ministerier, delstatsregeringar och unionsterritorier.
Vidare finns det 3697 skyddade monument och platser av nationell betydelse under Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Bevarande och underhåll av dessa monument är en regelbunden företeelse som ASI utför enligt platsens krav och tillgängliga resurser.
